LipiScan and LipiFlow for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction
Learn how Infinity Eye Care uses LipiScan and Lipiflow to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction.
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is an abnormality or blockage of the meibomian glands within the eye. When these glands are not working properly, a patient can experience a reduction of oil secreted into tears. Tears can more rapidly evaporate and there is greater friction between the cornea and eyelids, resulting in symptoms of eye irritation.
MGD is chronic and progressive; when left untreated, the symptoms generally worsen.
Infinity Eye Care is proud to offer LipiScan and Lipiflow to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction.
Diagnosis of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Using LipiScan
LipiScan has revolutionized diagnosis of MGD.
During a clinical exam, the team at Infinity Eye Care will use this small, lightweight device to take a high-definition, multi-dimensional image of your meibomian glands. LipiScan aids our doctors in identifying dry eye with high accuracy.
This simple diagnostic test is easily and comfortably performed in our office. Our doctors will review and discuss the results with you. Best of all, we can show you the dysfunctioning glands and develop the most appropriate treatment plan to alleviate your symptoms.
Treatment of Dry Eye with LipiFlow
LipiFlow is an FDA-approved procedure that improves the function of meibomian glands.
The LipiFlow contoured device applies gentle massage, therapeutic heat, and peristaltic energy pressure to your eyes; the combination of which addresses meibomian gland obstructions. The procedure is quick, comfortable and effective.
